My top shows of the year list will be coming soon. I didn't get to as many as last year, but I didn't have as much money or incentive to leave. I also had my calender deleted (twice) so it won't be as complete as usual.
however.....
I have to say it's been a great year musically, personally, and professionally. Not so much so for me scholarly but ....
I continue to live a dream. I own my house and car free and clear. I cannot stress how important I think that is. Too many Americans this time of year put themselves in debt. Now did I charge a couple of hundred dollars, well yes. This is very out of character for me but times called for it.
I worry greatly about people and the country and debt. Student loan debt for one. High health care costs have really pushed up the cost of going to school and increased the need to rely on grants - both public and private. The private worries the hell out of me. (is that an expression?) Cororate philanthropy does not exist. Nothing is free.
My friend has a gas card for work. I heard her son say, "She gets free gas." no that gas isn't free, someone pays. Nothing is free. I worry that people and America thing they are getting something for free right now.

I agree with Bruce
GET UP, STAND UP
"A Brief Statement from Bruce Springsteen," posted now on www.brucespringsteen.net:
Like many of you who live in New Jersey, I've been following the progress of the marriage-equality legislation currently being considered in Trenton. I've long believed in and have always spoken out for the rights of same sex couples and fully agree with Governor Corzine when he writes that, "The marriage-equality issue should be recognized for what it truly is -- a civil rights issue that must be approved to assure that every citizen is treated equally under the law."
I couldn't agree more with that statement and urge those who support equal treatment for our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters to let their voices be heard now.
- ditto from me, Zeke. Homosexual rights is the biggest civil rights issue out there. In my opinion, all Americans who beleive in freedom need to get behind this issue.
